Community Camera Sharing Partnership with the Meridian Township Police Department

Technology is advancing at an amazing rate, and along with it, the number of businesses and residences with some form of camera system is growing. There are times when those cameras can record subjects committing a crime.

The Meridian Township Police Department (MTPD) is committed to establishing and maintaining partnerships in our community, and with understanding, cooperation, and equality; we strive to enhance the quality of life and protect the rights of our community.

Business owners and residents with private camera systems are asked to partner with the Meridian Township Police Department by providing basic information about their cameras in the event they can be used to help solve a crime. This partnership is not meant to allow MTPD direct access to the camera system; rather, it is just a list of locations where cameras exist. If a situation occurs in the camera's field of view, MTPD can contact the camera's owner to ask whether they have any video of the incident. It would be up to the video's owner to decide whether to release it to MTPD.

The partnership would require minimal information from the camera owner and would incur no costs. MTPD would maintain a private list of camera system locations and contact the owner to check for usable video. If you no longer wish to participate in the program, your information will be removed from the list immediately.

A police and community camera sharing partnership is an excellent way to enhance the quality of life and protect the rights of our community.
